Chinto Chinto may mean, "fighting to the east", or it may be the name of the martial artist who created it. This kata is known also as Gankaku (in Shotokan Karate), meaning "Crane on a rock", which describes the repeated use of the crane's one-legged stance in the Japanese version of this kata. However, in Seidokan and most of the Okinawan versions of this form, the original kosa dachi, or twist stance, is used where Shotokan has replaced these with the Crane stance, or tsuru ashi dachi. This kata is generally performed at a 45 degree angle, though some systems of karate have it moving straight forward and back.
