The Great Wall at Ba Da Ling is nearest to Beijing, and is therefore one of the most frequented spots visited by tourists. It is also one of the most spectacular, not because of the nearby surrounding countryside, or, the remoteness of it, but because from the higher sections of Ba Da Ling, one can view many various sections of the Wall as it travels up mountainsides and down into valleys. There are many sections of the wall that one can see from the higher vantage points. Viewing Ba Da Ling from the lower sections, which is most frequented by tourists, does not yield the stunning vistas that one sees from higher up. The view from the higher sections can be attained by walking up the Wall pathways, but, the more time and energy efficient method is to take the cable car, which, considering the high winds in the area, is an adventure in and of itself.
